Frequently asked questions
If you’re considering applying for an RCA Shootout or registering interest in upcoming programmes, this page is designed to give you clear, transparent information before you get started.
What is an RCA Shootout?
An RCA Shootout is a professionally structured driver evaluation designed to assess performance, professionalism, and readiness for higher levels of motorsport. It is not a race or track day — drivers are assessed across on-track performance, data analysis, engineering communication, physical readiness, and off-track conduct.
How many drivers are selected, and how many win?
Each Shootout selects a limited number of drivers to attend (for example, up to 48 drivers). From that group, only one driver may be selected as the overall winner, depending on the programme. This ensures a highly competitive and transparent evaluation process.
What happens if I’m not selected as the winner?
Not being selected as the winner does not mean the Shootout has no value. Drivers receive professional exposure, feedback, and benchmarking against other competitive drivers. In some cases, drivers may be identified for future testing, development opportunities, or follow-up programmes.
Do I need previous GT or professional racing experience?
Not necessarily. Each Shootout has its own eligibility criteria, but drivers from karting, formula cars, national championships, and other racing categories are encouraged to apply if they believe they are ready for professional evaluation.
Is this a pay-to-drive programme?
No. While there is an entry fee to participate in the Shootout, selection outcomes are merit-based. The entry fee covers professional evaluation, track time, engineering support, data analysis, and operational costs. Winning or progressing is determined by performance — not budget.
What does the entry fee include?
The entry fee covers participation in the Shootout, including track time, professional engineering support, data and video analysis, structured evaluations, and access to RCA staff and partners. It does not include travel, accommodation, visas, insurance, personal equipment, or damage liability.
Who are the assessors, and how are drivers judged?
Drivers are assessed by professional engineers, team personnel, and RCA staff using defined criteria, including pace, consistency, adaptability, data interpretation, communication, physical readiness, and professionalism. Assessments are based on observed performance throughout the event — not a single lap or session.
What licences, equipment, and preparation are required?
Drivers must hold a valid motorsport licence appropriate to the category and bring their own racewear, including helmet, suit, gloves, and boots. RCA does not provide personal equipment. Full requirements are communicated to accepted drivers prior to the event.
What are the risks, and who is liable?
Motorsport carries inherent risk. Drivers participate at their own risk and are responsible for personal insurance, travel insurance, and any vehicle damage incurred during the Shootout. RCA is not liable for personal injury, loss, or damage.
Why should I trust RCA and its partners?
RCA works with established teams, circuits, and event operators to deliver transparent, professionally run evaluations. Our goal is to create clear, merit-based pathways and realistic opportunities, with expectations clearly outlined before drivers commit.
